Nope, sorry, I got mixed up (long time since I used it), InStr(..) is the VB/Access version of Charindex() (there used to be another version called Loc() also).

InStr() is an alternate version of Mid(), sort of like Substring().

If you are on SQL Server 2005 or 2008, you should not need multiple Tempdb data files unless you are observering latch contention on your temp table cache. If...

Maybe, but I don't think it's a database problem, per se, but rather some disconnect between how the database is setup vs., what the app thinks that it should be....
