Well you can certainly edit an SSIS 2005 package in VS2008, if you have BIDS 2008 (SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition).
You can open the 2005 pakcage and edit it....

Oh, now I get it. LOOP join, yeah, with row locking that'll prevent any table escalations, and MAXDOP 1 makes a deadlock virtually impossible.

If you are running your exe from a mapped drive letter, try accessing it with a URN instead.
If that doesn't work, then see if it works when you copy it...

I don't beleive there is anything like this from Microsoft. You might want to search around to see if anyone has implemented this for themselves.
