    To explain my users requirement in a bit more detail....

    1) A property has changed status from occupied to available to let

    2) This should trigger a word document to go out...

    Are you autoshrinking any of the databases (including tempdb) it could be that the server is having to re-create the space which eventually fragments the disk.
