    What i see from the CASE statemnet is that, based of the payment_id value, he is choosing from 2 different tables.. If thats the case, then i dont think...

    Try to find the real length of the data in the old table. You can so SELECT MAX(LEN(columnA)), MAX(LEN(columnb)), ... to find out what your new table needs to...
