Upgrade types

    Dear Experts

    Kindly can you explain in simple words what are in place upgrade and side by side upgrade, how they work

    kindly provide me by any good simple article.

    An in-place upgrade is where you upgrade the existing SQL Server instance running on your server. A side-by-side upgrade is where you build a new server, install a later version of SQL and then migrate your databases.

    Or install a new instance on the server and move the databases over.
