Turns out removing the TDE before a new backup was the solution. 🙂We had not tried the detach/attach method.
There shouldnt be any reason why you cannot restore a backup of your TDE protected database to another server.
Questions:
do you run regular checkdb on the source database, does it display any errors?
does the backup throw up any issues on the source?
do you verify the backup file?
If TDE creates this sort of problem when restoring backups I would be interested in knowing whether an always encrpted database would be problematic as well....
