Talking baseball

  • Also, last month, I got to sample Boog's BBQ at Camden Yards. Had myself a BBQ pork sandwich! Very tasty! My only complaint: I like wet barbecue, and there was no sauce.

  • I don't usually buy food at ballparks. On a hot day, I'll get a slushy. Maaaaybe fries if I got some money burnin' a hole in my pocket. It's just too dang expensive. I love the idea of ballpark food, but it just costs too much to have lunch at the park. Drink/sandwich(dog)/fries is about $20 on top of a $30 ticket? no thanks.

Kaufman stadium had some BBQ stuff (Gates I believe) but I'm not a fan of BBQ.

National's Stadium has their "famous Nat Dog" which is... a hot dog. Nothing to write home about here.

Camden yards ... yeah, didn't buy anything there.

I get more excited about the promotions "First 10,000 fans get a free tote bag" kind of stuff.

A buddy of mine (who lives in Maine and -- like you -- is a Red Sox fan) told me a Red Sox announcer had a great quote:

"The scariest sight in all of sports: Bat Day at Yankee Stadium. 50,000 people in the South Bronx all carrying a lethal weapon!"

    :hehe::-D

I'm with you. I used to enjoy trying stuff, but now I avoid it. Apart from being unhealthy for the most part, lots of the food isn't as great as what you can get a block or two outside the stadiums. Since I often go to afternoon games when I go, I eat lunch on the way down, have a beer and a large diet coke and that's about it. Kids usually want a hot dog, a churro (son) and cotton candy (daughter).

After that game at Coors Field last year (where I hooked up with you), my in-laws, along with my (then brand-new-)brother-in-law, went out to that Brazilian steak place right next to Union Station. Man, that was GOOD stuff!!!

Rodizio Grill. Good stuff, but messes with my GI tract so I avoid it.

    I like wet barbecue...

You can't really mean that, or you would have moved to live in Fort William.

  • Gilroy Garlic Fries at AT&T park, very yummy. Don't ride home in a van with all your male cousins after the game though, 'less you want to get a nose full of stink.

There's also a crab cakes sandwich that's rumored to be tasty but I'm not going to pay $15.50 for it.

  • Mike Flanagan, former Orioles pitcher and Cy Young winner, died yesterday at age 59. May have been suicide. The news is really affecting the Baltimore area - competing with both hurricane and earthquake news. If the rumors are true, his death is tragic on many different levels.

RIP to this beloved Baltimore figure.

  • The Brewers are really on a roll now.... hope they aren't peaking at the wrong time.

  • hehe. David Ortiz's first game back after being on the DL with a bum ankle. 1st to home on a Crawford double (ended on third) to right field. I remember hearing the announcer say "he's going to be out by a mile" and thinking *why would the coach send him. He runs about as fast as a 3 legged injured elephant on a good day and here he is with a stiff ankle at the least*. Then I see the ball on the ground... holy crap! lol good stuff. Poor Texas.

  • Three grand slams?!? 22 runs???

    Are you kidding me???

As Bob Uecker once famously said, "a couple of grand slams and we're right back in this thing!"

I know, right? Down 7-1, everyone thought the route was on.

They just didn't know it would be a route for the Yankees!
