SSIS 2008 to SSIS 2016 Upgarde

  • Hi,

I need inputs on below points

    1. Can I use Visual Studio 2017 for SSIS upgrade activity from 2008 to 2016?
    2. Can I open SSIS packages which are migrated from SSIS 2008 to 2016 using Visual Studio 2015? Any challenges while working with these migrated packages

  • If you are asking can you open, and upgrade packages in VS 2017 that were created in BIDS, then yes, you can.

There has been a wealth of changes since SSDT was introduced, including things like project level connection managers and project parameters. The biggest "challenge" in my opinion is slowly migrating your old package connection to projects ones where you need to, which can take a little while.

You also will likely want to test any scripts if you have prior to deployment, as the .net version will differ.
