SSIS 2005 service not starting after KB2716429

  • Hi all,

We have been experiencing problems with SSIS service not starting with the usual useful error "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

The common factor on the machines on which this is happening compared to those where it is not would appear to be that KB2716429 (for MS12-070) has been applied. It was working fine a fortnight ago.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you have any fix/workaround?

  • When you see that useless error, is that in the Services MMC?

What do you see in the Widnows Application and System Event Logs when the service fails to start?

  • I had exactly the same issue and had to uninstall the patch in the end to get the Integration Services service started again

Same symptoms as described in this kb but we were already on sp4 build 5057

  • I have not seen this specific problem, but I have seen other situations where a SQL Service does not start within the timeout limit after applying a patch.

This can be overcome by setting the ServicesPipeTimeout registry setting. For more details see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922918
