SQLMAIL Configuration

  • I should be grateful for any advice on a SQLMAIL issue I am trying to resolve.

I have taken the following steps.

    1. Set up a domain account.

    2. Set it up as Administrator to the SQL Server box.

    3. Granted it "Log ON as Service" rights on SQL Server box.

    4. Set up Exchange mail box for said user.

    5. Set up MAPI profile on SQL Server box whilst logged in as the service account.

    6. Set up Outlook2000 (pre-requisite for using SQL MAIL with SQL 2000).

    7. Tested the whole shebang with SQLMAIL/Outlook etc. No problems.

The problem is, I don't want to leave the SQL Box logged on with the Service Account user. Ideally I want to have it logged on with the bare minimum of rights.

As soon as I log the box on as something other than the service account, SQLMAIL fails.

This must have something to do with the user profile, but I don't know what.

    Can anyone help?

  • Are Roaming Profiles in effect? I believe the profile information is going to be stored wherever \Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ is. If you've got a roaming profile, it's not going to be on the local drive, and the drive mapping won't exist when you log off.
