I have old physical SQL Server which is less than 2 yrs old, so we are planning to upgrade to SQL 2017/2019. So thinking of using the same old physical SQL Server for the upgrade. Would need to load the new windows version and SQL Server. Do you see any reason that it should not be used. Please advise?

Are you asking is there a reason not to re-used hardware? If so, no if it meets your needs for resources.

Thanks! It does meet the needs. However, i would think it has more processors than what we need? Not sure if we can trim the processors? My understanding is that usually physical hardware would have a life span approx 4 - 5yrs. Would you see any issues using this for production?

Nope, I see people replacing hardware as needed these days. Sometimes they work on a lease arrangement (3-5 years), sometimes they keep it around if it meets the workload.
No reason to replace hardware that works. I think you can turn off (and not license) some CPUs in BIOS if that works.
