SQL Server 2000 Installation Problem

  • Hello,

I am trying to install SQL Server 2000 on a Windows XP Pro computer and I get to the screen that says:

"Setup is starting the server and installing your chosen configuration..."

The installation gets stuck on this screen and will not go any further; I leven let it sit for over an hour and had to end the task to kill it. I have looked on the web and on other SQL sites but can't seem to find anything that helps me with this problem. Here is a copy of the setup log file:

It looks to me like for some reason there is a problem starting the service but I can't imagine what it is. I am logged in as a local admin on the computer and I set up the installation to use mixed mode authentication. Does anyone out there know what the possible problem could be? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • As you said, it seems there are some problem to start the service. Can you check windows event log and sql errorlog for more information?

  • Had a similar problem in loading a Developer Edition on Windows XP pro using a named instance. Removed the installations and re-installed it using the default instance. Was then able to operate normally. Had no problem installing named instances on Windows Server 2003 computer.

  • Having same problem can i tried many times but result is same can somebody please help on this.
