I am running SQL Server 2008 R2 and have a maintenance plan that creates a backup file every two hours. If allowed to run automatically it runs fine and creates the *.bak file no problem.
When I try to execute the plan automatically it will say that it was successful in creating the backup, but no actual .bak file gets created. There are no errors generated, it just doesn't actually process the task when the plan is manually executed.
I am at a complete loss and haven't been able to find anyone else that has had this specific issue.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dirk

Try running a trace when you execute the package manually to see what is going on.
