As far as I have been able to find, it looks like the only way for SQL mail to work on Windows2000 machines is with outlook installed. NT4 servers can
use a built in email program, but 2000 servers do not have this ability.
Are there mail programs other than Outlook or Exchange that will work on Windows 2000 servers for SQL EMail?

Steve's right, has always been said email has to be MAPI compliant, as for the NT4 2000 issue, 2000 should not have any issues with this.
