sp2 installation failed in sql 2005 multiinstance cluster

  • I tried to instal sp2 on named instance of sql 2005 cluster..

Actually it was multiple instance cluster but i did not see default instance resources (like sql virtual name, virtual ip,sql disks, sql services, sql agent service ) ,data and log files in both nodes.i saw default sqlserver details in control panel and services.msc ,configuration manger in stopped mode.

when i was trying to instal sp2 on named instance it failed for database engine with fallowing error.

  • First of all find the Instance name or if default, you can check this information in the Failover management tool on each SQL Server resources, double click on it and then check the last one tab it will show the instance name MSSQLSERVER or named instance
