I'm getting the following error when attempting to connect to Report Builder 3.0 on a SQL 2014 Report Builder install. This is installed on my local development workstation.
I can get to the Report Manager through the URL identified in SSRS Configuration manager. I was able to create folders, setup new DB connections, etc. I have also given my local login DEVOX\bob a System Administrator role on the report server.
I have tried starting Report Builder 3.0 both as an Administrator and using my own login (i.e. normal launch) and in both cases I get the error shown above.
This is a fresh install on a computer that crashed and had to be rebuilt. I remember having similar issues a few years ago when this workstation was originally setup, but I can't remember the resolution at that time. However, each time I do a new install of SSRS I find it frustrating and difficult to navigate. I need to be able to access this local server to test and debug reports that are currently in production.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the Web Service URL instead of the Report Manager URL - point to ReportServer not Reports
http://<servername>/reportserver

I get the same error even with the URL that you suggested.

Did you check the URL for the web service in Report Services Configuration Manager? I provided an example - the point was reportserver instead of reports.

That was it!!

I didn't notice that the URL had _DEVBOX appended to the end. I'll have to remember that.

Hi everybody,

Thank you for your posts. Sue's suggestions seem to solve everyone's problem here but unfortunately didn't help me much. I'm trying to use Report Builder 3.0 web services on SQL Server 2008 R2. Builder cannot connect and I receive the same error message as above. I used both web service URL and report manager URL (just in case) but neither worked. I also tried both URLs with and without adding port number (:80) and the ending forward slash (/). None has worked so far. I really appreciate any help. One last point to add: Initially I downloaded an older version of Report Builder which connects to the web services with no problem. Should I uninstall that in order to make Report Builder 3.0 work?

As bad as it sounds, there are different versions of Report Builder 3.0. Use the version that works with the version of SQL Server you are on. They won't all work across different versions due to the changes in the different versions. This is the Report Builder 3.0 to use with SQL Server 2008 R2:
