Point-In-Time Restore Using Just mdf and ldf Files?

  • If a developer accidentally deleted a complex stored procedure while attempting to upload it to the central server using RedGate SQL Compare (the sync went in the wrong direction), can the developer do a point-in-time restore if the local dev database was not being backed up? It seems like all the transaction info would be in the ldf file, so I would think there is probably some way to do this. Thank you.

  • Not using standard MSSQL tools unfortunately.

However, you might be able to use LogExplorer? I've not used it myself but I'm told it's a very powerful tool for exploring the transaction log for auditing, etc purposes.

  • I have not used LogExplorer, although I see they have a free trial. Thanks for the idea.
