MCITP

  • Hi All

I have completed my sql server2000 exams 228/9 (I know Its late but as they say better late than never !) and would like to know which exam should I take to achive MCITP

    Thanks.

  • Microsoft Training will help. Choose Certifications from the left navigation bar.

  • You need 2 exams. The Technical specialist for SQL 2005 (70-431) and then the MCDBA upgrade exam 70-447. Those 2 will get you your ITP (Database Admin)

There's no upgrade path to ITP (Database Developer)

Alos, the upgrade is from full MCDBA, not just the exams 228 and 229

  • Just a thought:

I was preparing to update my MCDBA to a SQL Server 2005 MCITP, but I decided to hold off since SQL 2008 should be coming out soon. I would like to see the new sql server 2008 certification before spending time studying.:)

  • ...correct but you should be upgraded till today from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 😛

  • Your right my friend, in a perfect world I would be up to date. 😛 However, in the Microsoft world, just as my company and most other companies I know upgraded to SQL 2005, SQL 2008 was the latest and greatest. :w00t: Maybe I am getting old and slow at keeping up with certifications or Microsoft is getting faster at releases or maybe both.

  • Re: not getting 2005 certs waiting for 2008 certs.

From what I've seen on SQL 2008 so far, it's basically SQL 2005 plus more new stuff. (I'm just talking about the product, not any exams. They haven't been announced yet.)

For me, passing the 2005 certs was like taking most of what I learned for SQL 2000, then piling on all the new SQL 2005 stuff.

Prepping for the 2005 exams was simply a matter of looking at the individual exam topic list pages on the MS cert site, looking the new items up in BOL, viewing a few of the free training videos, and then trying everything out for myself by writing T-SQL to do everything. The SQL 2000 exams 228 and 229 seemed like intro tests to the 2005 ones. I'd bet the 2005 v. 2008 exams may play the same.

I passed 4 of the 5 SQL 2005 exams while they were still in beta, and the 5th the first week it went live - long before any cram guide came out - and I think having the 2000 exams under my belt made that possible with the limited effort I put into it. (Yeah, I took the long way to upgrade my MCDBA to MCITP: DBA. The individual admin tests were available before 71-447, so I jumped on those...)

If you're shooting for 2008 certification, IMHO the best thing you can do for yourself is to get certified on SQL 2005 first - starting now. The second shot promotion is running now as well. Go for it!
