Itanium processors flatlined at 100% for prolonded periods?

  • Hi,

Should I be concerned that our Itanium processors are flat out at 100% while running a single simple package?

Do Itaniums give you different performance readings than you would expect with 32 bit chips?

The reason I ask is that when we run a package in our 32 bit environment (8 Xeons at 700 mhz ) the processors average 50% (79% tops) usage, however, running the same package in our Itanium environment (2 dual cores at 1.6mhz) the processors are practically flat out for the entire process. Yes the package runs faster as you'd expect but I'm use to the 32 bit concept that if your processors are at 100% for prolonged periods then something is wrong.

  • Same OS/ SQL versions?

That sounds a little suspicious, but you've got less threads executing simultaneously, so it might make sense.
