Installing SQL Server 2005 client tools on top of existing SQL Server 2005 Database Engine running on SP2

  • I have a SQL Server 2005 Database Engine with Standard Edition installed on a Server.

    It does not have the SQL Server 2005 client tools installed.

    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3282.00 (Intel X86)

    Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

    The question here is;

    To install the SQL Server 2005 client tool on the server, do i have to uninstall the SQL Server or simply i can install the client tools on top of it.

    As the current SQL Server 2005 version 9.00.3282.00, will there not any conflict installing SQL Server client tools?

  • You should install the tools 'on top' of the existing installation and then re-install the service packs and cumulative updates to bring everything up to the latest available.
