Install SP4 on a cluster

  • We have a 2000 cluster that needs to have SP4 installed. I know that SP4 is cluster aware, but as far as I can tell this will take the cluster offline to install the SP and will cause huge problems for our users.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way of installing the SP on both nodes without encountering any downtime for our users? I hope that I can install SP4 on the passive node then failover and install it onto the old active (now passive) node?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Phil

  • Sorry, no. The service pack is intelligent enough to bring down the services on both nodes. I run into the same issue and there was no other option but scheduled some downtime and run SP4 We had some issues, but finally it run OK

  • We ended up with downtime for users which was unfortunate, as the cluster has the DBs for our web and email filtering software so the organisation lost connectivity while this was performed. It did go without any problems which was a bonus!
