Firewall config for SQL server ports

    Hello,

    A question regarding which ports need to be opened on a SQL server.

    • Scenario : Multiple named SQL instances on single server are installed and SQL Browser service in use

      • Open udp port 1434 for applications to access a SQL instance by instance name.

    Question: Do the ports for the individual named SQL instances also need to be added to the firewall rules?

    Yes. There are additional ports you may need to open depending on what features are being used (service broker, debugger, url access, etc). The follow documentation is a good reference for firewall ports:
