Creating SQL2008R2 SSIS packages in SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2013

  • Can anyone shed any light why on this https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt674919.aspx Microsoft web page it suggests designing SQL 2008 R2 package is possible in SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2013 I've tried creating a test package because I was dubious as backward compatibility has never been supported before.

I changing my project to a package deployment model and tried to save to a SQL 2008 R2 server and got the following error

Storing or modifying packages in SQL Server requires the SSIS runtime and database to be the same version. Storing packages in earlier versions is not supported.

Am I missing something or is the information just wrong or have I misinterpreted it?

  • I think you would need Visual Studio 2010 to support SSIS 2008
