I dumped a database. It totalled 50MB in size. Then I winziped it and that dropped it down to 3.5MB! (There's a lot of "hot air" in a database). Is there any way that's part of sql server to automatically compress a dumped database?

Nope. One of our advertisers - SQLZip - has a decent product that does exactly that though. You can read my once over here:
