I decided to post this on the forum so that you are aware of this problem before you face it.
Has Anybody seen this error message while you are trying to restore a database from a Backup file when the database is not already created.
"Could not find database ID 65535. Database may not be activated yet or may be in transition"
And this message with the same backup file when you try to restore over an existing database.
Server: Msg 3154, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'MYTEST' database.
Server: Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
If you get these two error messages then check whether you are trying to restore a differential backup thinking that you are restoring from a FULL BACKUP.
It's hard to find the reason because of this completely irrelevant error message it returns. that's why i thought it would be useful publishing here.
