Just heard abt this $2M Product. Which as per Microsoft runs 8 times faster than typical SS2008 installations. Ofcourse this comes with two racks of servers (upto 22).
I was curious if someone tried the "Apollo" technology. I mean the column storage technology.
How does that work ? If we are storing data in columns wud dat be still called a RDBMS ?
No right ?
Please share your thoughts, what do you think of this deployment and the column storage technology.

Sure it's Denali (which is in early CTP) and not SQL 2008 R2 Parallel datawarehouse edition (that's what Data Allegro became iirc)
p.s. Denali has no official name yet, so you can't say it's SQL 2011. Currently it's just Denali

SQL 11 yes. Not SQL 2011.
It's called SQL 11 (and has been called that since long before the code name was announced) because the major version number is 11. If you run @@Version on Denali it returns 11.0.1103.9 (for CTP1). SQL 2008 was SQL 10 (10.0.1600 at RTM)
Call it SQL 11 (referring to the major version), call it Denali. Don't call it SQL 2011 because there is no such product. Maybe it'll get that name, maybe not.
