I would like to know the steps while doing software upgrade on sql server cluster environment.

I got request to support as DBA while software team going to upgrade veritas software /storage upgrade on windows server 2003 sp2. they asked to support to stop and start sql and cluster services on passive/active node.

cluster info :

Total physical node : 3

Node 1
Node 2
Node 3

total instance = 5
INT 1 preferred owner =2
INT 2 preferred owner =2
INT 3 preferred owner =1
INT 4 preferred owner =3
INT 5 preferred owner =3

Failover process:

As far as I know, when the server team will be ready to upgrade for node 1. I need to failover all resources to node 2 or node 3. disable all sql server services including cluster service on node 1 and allow software team to upgrade. Once i get green sign from software team I need to bring all services online and put them into original state means manual mode. and then failover resources back to node 1 . same process apply for node 2 and node 3.

Please let me know if i miss anything or this is right way to this.

thanks in advance .
