With a Pricipal Server, Mirror and Witness Server, Do you have to have a .ldf on both Principal & Witness Server. I know the transaction log is what is used to keep both of them in sync, correct.

The witness is used for automatic failover in High Safety mode - The database is not mirrored to the witness server

Any time you have a database you have a log file. It's an essential part of the database. That said, witness doesn't need any user databases on it.
