Log Reader Agent Login Failure

  • SQL 2012, Replication:

When I start the Replication Monitor I see that I have an error. Opening Agent History I see the error message:

Unable to start execution of step 2 (reason: Error authenticating proxy DomainName\erName , system error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.). The step failed.

Well, duh, the service account loginid is DomainName\UserName. Anybody know where this could possibly be changed? What gives?

Under Agent Security of the Publication properties, the Log Reader Agent: is DomainName\UserName.

This was working correctly for a month, then the job started failing with this bizarre error like a week ago.

    Thanks!

  • May be domain account password has "expired".

Check the account properties. Is "Password never changes" enabled?

  • Suresh, thanks for the reply. Under logins, the login name is DomainName\UserName with Windows Authentication.

Under Credentials, the Identity is DomainName\UserName and the passwords have been entered (being an AD account, password doesn't change).

The weird thing here though is where can the name change anywhere else? To reiterate:

    Entered: DomainName\UserName

    Errmsg: DomainName\erName
