While installing SQL Server 2008 and choosing authentication, By default it will be windows authentication, if you choose mixed mode then it would have asked to type the sa password.

Assuming you have choosed windows authentication, did you add admin user for SQL Server, if no then you need to go ahaed with the installation once more and please select mixed mode authentication.
