We are just starting an investigation into a SQLServer consolidation project. I have been doing some reading and there seems to be many different suggestions for data to collect on the existing databases at the beginning of such an exercise. I don't know if there is a ROI in trying to obtain every piece of data suggested for every SQLserver db - we have hundreds. There must be a smaller set of data to identify best candidates for consolidation and then maybe some more metrics to get to confirm the candidates?
