I agree.

The policy of not supporting older software versions may work for other platforms, such as office applications to entice "latest & greatest" upgrades, but this approach does not work for back-office servers happily grinding away, day-in, day-out, simply because there is no real benefit to upgrading anything that is working well.

If it ain't broke, why fix it?
