Eric, congrats on the new family addition. Does he/she have a name yet?  Canine friends do add so much love to our lives.  Our 12-year-old Golden, Lupe (Pinecreek's Rocky Mountain Lupine) brightens our day with her constant attention and 'herding' us around the house, most happy when we are in the same room.  We have a custom of sitting on the deck or porch late afternoon to share a glass of wine, and as soon as I stop in front of our home bar cabinet, she is at the front door, waiting nose-to-the-crack.  If I don't go that way, she races to the back deck door while looking over her shoulder to see if I'm following.  Our handicap-accessible home now has sliding doors, and her latest accomplishment is to open these with her nose.  There goes our privacy....

I hope the house-breaking process goes well.  If you are lucky, it will just take a few days, much easier than our children were!  We accomplished this by keeping her in a very small cage by the bedside and taking her out as soon as she stirred.  Seems they don't like to do their 'duty', as a friend says, in their own space.

We've only had her a couple of weeks, and it's all a new experience for our family. My impression of the Beagle breed so far is that they are very active, smart, and have long sharp teeth which they use to nip and grasp. I know it's just being playful, but first thing in the morning when I'm putting her leash on to take a walk, it's like trying to handle a wild squirrel. 🙂
