Perhaps of even greater impact will be the revolution in RAM that is just around the corner. The technique that allows spinning disk to hold TB of data in such a small space has been applied to memory in laboratory situations. I can only speculate as to what this will mean in terms of memory capacity but given that 10 years ago my PC has a 2GB disk drive in it seeing a 16 GB laptop becoming a 2TB laptop would seem to be a distinct possibility.

Servers will easily be operating in the TB range so even SSDs will merely be backing stores to incredibly fast databases.
