funnily enough i've had both

option (OPTIMIZE FOR (@StartDate UNKNOWN, @todayinJulian UNKNOWN),MAXDOP 12)

and

option (RECOMPILE,MAXDOP 12)

on there (not at the same time, obv). It happened no matter what.
