wow that's unusual, can you check for corruption? that might explain everything:
dbcc checktable ('YourTableName') WITH ALL_ERRORMSGS
DBCC CHECKDB (<Database Name>) WITH NO_INFOMSGS, ALL_ERRORMSGS
