I wrote/modified a check script running every hour which keeps looking after certain keywords in the errorlog I predefined. If it finds something, I send me an email. But email is not reliable. Image you are in an meeting or otherwise prevented for any reason you can't read urgent the urgent mail in that time you should. And the more mails you receive, the harder it get's to distuingish beetween important and unimportant.
