I agree with you completely about the importance of the relationship between the engine and syntax. However, we did not want to discount anyone because of the platform they currently work on. I am significantly out-of-date on my Oracle skills but I would think that the basic principles would still apply.
Ah. For future note you would usually mention you want 2+ years of experience in any version of SQL Server, this would indicate non-currency would be allowable with the right other skillsets. However, that makes some sense. It will really come down to data volume which isn't described as to how deft a hand the tuner would need to have.
Additionally, these job descriptions are not always as easy to write especially when it is the first one you have ever written as in this case.
Oh I agree. If this is your first one, it's amazingly well done. Concise, tightly targetted position with a full understanding of the expectations and required skills that aren't asking for the world so you might actually be able to get your job done in a reasonable week.
Not having a degree I usually have a personal annoyance when the degree is 'required' instead of 'preferred', as it means I can't usually get past the gatekeepers to show equivalent value, but otherwise I'd apply... if there wasn't so much danged WINTER up there in Detroit. I like my desert. 🙂
