I’m not so sure we will see new data types, so much as adding DOMAIN to SQL Server. I didn’t know about it until reading one of Joe Celko’s books, and then after that went searching for it in SQL Server. The closest thing to it is a user defined data type, but that doesn’t offer the full feature set that DOMAIN would.
