Don't know if I am off topic here, but am struggling with a side-by-side upgrade of SQL Server 2008 to Sql 2008 R2 on a machine runnig Windows Server 2008 R2....

The SQL 2008 R2 installs but the Instance is MSSQLSERVER.Inactive (see image below)

I am happy to completely upgrade to MSSQL 2008 R2 and eliminate SQL 2008...

Also, the install is no longer accepting my serial no - have put it in so many times (on the same machine, of course)
