Hi,
I have encountered the following error message on SQL agent log of SQL Server 2008 SP1 with Cumulative Update 5 (10.0.2746.00) on Windows 2008 R2 server:
[355] The mail system failed to initialize; check configuration settings
[260] Unable to start mail session (reason: Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlIMail.Server.Common.BaseException: Mail configuration information could not be read from the database. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: profile name is not valid
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStre)
Above error is occured even though database mail is not enabled.
Please advise. Thanks.

It seems some thing in that job is trying to send an email. You need to identify that and see that it is either suppressed or configure database mail on your server.

Hi Bru,

i also experience ExternalMailQueue is always downs when I try to enable it and having the following error message:
The activated proc '[dbo].[sp_sysmail_activate]' running on queue 'msdb.dbo.ExternalMailQueue' output the following: 'The service queue "ExternalMailQueue" is currently disabled.'
Very appreciate on any resolution.
