I already had an MCSA in SQL 2012/2014 and passed 70-762 in October to earn my MCSE. I learned early on that 70-762 could not be used as an MCSE elective if used previously toward an MCSA in SQL 2016. So I was curious about what would happen if I took 70-761 after my MCSE from 70-762. It can't double as an elective, but I already have the MCSE. Would I lose the MCSE? Would I just not earn the MCSA? Well, I reached out to Microsoft and was told something that made no sense to me. That if I took 70-761 after 70-762, I would also earn the MCSA, but if I took 70-761 first and then 70-762, I would only get the MCSA and have to take a third (elective) exam to earn the MCSE. So if someone with an MCSA SQL 2012/2014 takes these two exams in one order, they would receive both the MCSA and MCSE, but in the opposite order, just the MCSA. I don't understand the logic behind this. Has anyone been in this situation? Any feedback?
