I have a SQL 2012 Cluster with one instance. it has many jobs/SSIS packages and applications that link to this cluster.
I have been tasked to build a new cluster on new hardware which i have done but they have asked that I rename everything on the new to match the old e.g the cluster name/cluster instance name etc so that stuff will work and applications will not have an issue.
My concern is that i know doing this will break my cluster and i may end up back at square one having to build all over again. They do not have any information relating to dependencies etc.
Has anyone renamed a failover cluster instance successfully without breaking the cluster bearing in mind i may need to utilize the ip addresses from the old environment too just incase there is any dependency on the ip address of the FCI instead of the name.
What are the issues i would experience or is it relatively simple to do? or is it not possible.
