Unable to switch SSRS service account to local

  • Hi,
I need to switch the ssrs account from domain to local account.
Now, sql server configuration manager does not let me do that. And when I try to do that via reporting service manager select built in option and select local account, it is asking for encryption key and and password which I no clue where they are stored. What are my options now? Can I delete and create new keys or keep searching for the keys? Also, is there anyway I can use the new key and save it?
    Thank you!

  • Why do you need (or want) to switch to using the local account?  That is not a recommended configuration and would not provide any features/functionality over your current configuration.

As for encryption keys - you can back it up from the SSRS configuration manager and then restore after making these changes.  But again - why make the change in the first place?

  • Thank you! I am aware switching to local system account is not a good idea. Now, the problem is reports are not running and this will only be a temp remedy. I want them to be running again asap and then maybe try to register the SPN's and use the domain account.
Now, I am unable to switch the ssrs to local account reason being is when you do that it asks you for file location and password of encryption key. Which I do not have or the developer has. Hence my only option is to keep waiting until they find out or figure out a different way.
Lastly, I did let people aware that it is not a best practice to use local system but the idea is temp remedy for now as report needs to be kicked off asap.
Backing Up keys - This does not work because when I choose that option it says file location and password of the existing key which I do not know.
