The ALTER DATABASE command could not be sent to the remote server instance 'TCP://WITNESS:7022'. The database mirroring configuration was not changed. Verify that the server is connected, and try again.
DB1, DB2, WITNESS all 2012 Standard.
There are currently 3 other DBs that are mirrored using the same witness so I know all the communication ports/paths are open. Using a domain service account that has connect on the witness endpoint and sa rights on all boxes (service also runs as this user). The database will mirror just fine, but if I try to add the witness it gets the error above. No other notes in ERRORLOG. Checked the SID matching in users database.
I feel like there is something simple I am missing. Going through the wizard I can connect to the witness when asked to verify the connection, but fails when it goes to send the alter command to turn it on.
I am logged into SMSS as the domain service account, I verify the connection with the same account.
Disclaimer: I have never used a witness on a mirror previously, the ones currently set up were inherited by me.
Thanks
