  • Having issues with SSRS, outputting to PDF . . . .

How can i make it fit on one page??  i really dont want to output to Excel, then PDF . . .

  • Ensure you set your page margins to exactly size of whatever one page is, ensure you set your page size to that size as well (i can't recall what the property is called), and don't go beyond those margins. if you have a table that could have a variable height or width, honestly, you're in for a world of pain.

SSRS is a real pain to export exactly to one page in a PDF; i don't recommend it for it.

  • Go into report properties and make sure the width and height properties are set correctly to the page size you want...  and make sure that you account for your margins.  For example, if you have your left and rights margins set to 1 inch, and you have your page set to 8.5 inches wide, you can only have 6.5 inches (wide) content on the page.  In my experience that is the most common reason for extra pages being added; people forget about the margins.

As an aside, on a few occasions I have had reports that simply wouldn't cooperate if I set the height and width or the margins via the properties panel; but that would work if I made the same changes in the actual Report Properties window (Menu at top of screen, select Report --> Report Properties) -- I have never found a reason why this is, and it doesn't happen often, but I've gotten into the habit of using the Report Properties windows for those settings just to avoid the issue...

If you have more than one data table or matrix side by side, make sure they're aligned properly.  If you have one table that is just slightly above or below the other, the rendering for PDF can get wonky and sometimes will add pages.

It can sometimes take a bit of trial and error but it's perfectly possible to create reports in SSRS that fit on a single page, or even on multiple pre-determined pages.  When you review the page there is a button to view in page format - make use of that.
