I want to upgrade the OS from server 2003 to the server 2016, I have sql server 2008 R2 installed. And in this phase, I am not touching SQL Server. Can sql server 2008,especially its databases be affected in this upgrade? And can someone offer the articles about this case?
First, I will just bring up the OS 2016 with different name. Then install SQL Server 2008 R2 on the new OS.
Copy the master databases from Old server (2003 R2) to new server master database (Do you see any issue with this?).
Start the SQL Server and attach the databases and ensure online.
Does this sounds like a plan?
