Thanks for this series Bill. Just learning MDX at the moment so timely for me.

Have to say though, that I wish the originator had stayed much closer to SQL when he created this language! Functions for EXCEPT, UNION and ORDER BY? Really?? What was Mosha thinking? (or drinking??)

Thanks for the input. MDX often challenges people who have mastered SQL, for more reasons than one. The functions you mention are but a few examples of significant conceptual differences in approaches to querying cube space. And with regard to Mosha, I have to say that my esteem for him - already quite high - only grows with the passage of time. :-)

...and it was sooooooooooo unnecessary to put those in functions. Standard syntax would have worked just as well while lowering the learning curve a bit -- maybe more than a bit.
