Hello.
We currently hold the Master, model and msdb databases on the C drive. This drive is currently configured as RAID 1. It is approx a 180GB disc with approx 70Gb of free space.
I am considering moving the Master db from the c drive onto its own LUN along with the other system databases.
Can anybody offer any advice on wether this is a good idea or is it likely to cause more trouble ? Also I am presuming this type of operation needs to be done out of ours ?
Any advice, links, on how to acomaccomplishse tasks would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steven

This is considered a best practice - to move system databases off of the c drive. I move all of my system databases to a different volume when possible.
Here is an article on how to do it.

make sure you follow the sql2005 version of those instructions. Its vital you keep the resource database with the master database in SQL2005.
This definitely needs to be done out of hours.
