Quick question about using CRYSTALDISKMARK to check LUNs

  • Ok,

I've used CRYSTALDISKMARK before, bot never on a drive or LUN with mount points.

I am about to validate performance on the SAN was delivered to me but I setup the cluster with mount points.

Will the CRYSTALDISKMARK check on the root drive, let's call it "M" for this post, hit the mount points located under the same letter as well?

I see no options to specify a folder or path ...

  • Answering myself ... 😉 ... it looks CRYSTALDISKMARK is designed for root drives, not mount points (someone correct me if I am wrong)

But this question pointed me to SQLIO. I am now using SQLIO instead, which let me use a parameter or text file where I can specify a folder or mount point myself...

  • Thought the same thing myself, found out you can assign a drive letter to the mount point, then CrystalDiskMark will see each of your mount point, provided of course you don't have more mount points and available letters 😉

  • If your mount points have already been assigned to a root drive letter you can always use the SUBST command. This will allow you to temporarily assign a drive letter to allow CRYSTALDISKMARK to access it.
